Hardraw Force

Hardraw Force & Hardraw Beck Falls

Hardraw Force is possibly the most famous waterfall in the Yorkshire Dales. At nearly 100ft drop it is reputed to be the highest (above ground) waterfall in England, and who can forget Kevin Costner apparently skinny dipping there in "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves". Access is through the "Green Dragon" Pub and an entry charge is payable, this goes to the up-keep of the paths and walkways.
Parking is easier if you drive past the Pub and the "Old School Bunkhouse" and park on Bellow Lane.

If your visiting this, why not take a nice gentle stroll around the falls further up stream as well.
It's not possible to walk all the way up from Hardraw But if you take the road towards Thwaite, (over Buttertubs) go past Simonstone Hall, As the road bends around to the right, you will see "Fossdale" - a narrow track, on your left.
This takes you down to the caravan park (Shaw Ghyll Caravan & Camping).
The track is not wide enough to park on but it is possible - with care to park at the junction opposite the Cottage.
Walk down the track and opposite the entrance to the Caravan park you will find a gate. The walk can be done both ways by crossing and re crossing the small bridges.
It is easy but not wheelchair friendly.

Don't look up!

Two small Bridges allow access to either side of the path
