Goit Stock Waterfalls

Goit Stock Waterfalls

There are not many Waterfalls in West Yorkshire, but Goit Stock is one of them, and can be found Cullingworth near Bingley A pleasant Fall of about 5m preceded by a smaller one. A 10 minute walk means this is to get to, although the path may be slippy when wet and numerous tree roots to negotiate. Bradford Council have helped by installing a steel staircase in one part.
Park on Hallas Lane, Post Code BD13 5BU, nr the junction with Greenside Lane. Follow Hallas Lane (Unmade track) down hill for approx 500m, cross the bridge and turn immediately left, following the signpost. Follow the path for another 250m to the falls.

Whitfield Gill Force

Whitfield Gill Force

Not the easiest falls to reach! Follow the directions from Mill Gill Force.
When you come to the finger post for Mill Gill, keep left and continue first through the woods, then edge along the pasture as you climb up. Ignore any other side paths.
You will eventually reach a fork signed "Askrigg via Low straits". This will take you down to the "Upper Falls at Mill Gill.
Keep left passing a barn, Continue on until you reach a sign saying "Path Ends 400 yds ahead No through route".
Where the path disappears, start descending down the remains of an old muddy track with wooden edging in parts.
This path eventually disappears due to land slip and can be very muddy after rain. The falls are at the end of this path.
It is necessary to follow the stream bed up to the falls.
I've never seen it in full flow but would imagine that when it is it would not be possible. Several trees have fallen at the base of the falls and it is not one of the most photogenic I've seen.
Unless you really want to have a good workout, I'd give this a miss.

"Askrigg via Low straits" to Upper Mill Gill Falls

"Path Ends 400 yds ahead No through route"

Wain Wath Force

Wain Wath Force

Another of the series of falls around Keld in Swaledale and the easiest to get to. Park at the road side just past the bridge leading to Tan Hill. Go through the gate in the  wall, and the falls are in front of you

Thomason Foss

Thomason Foss

Just outside Goathland in the North Yorkshire Moors, is the small hamlet of Beck Hole and Thomasson Foss waterfall.
Park in the layby on the main road or use the alternative car park at the top of the hill and walk down.
The path to the falls is approx 500m. It is steep, overgrown and can be wet and slippy in parts, but doesn't take long to reach the falls. The base of the falls is quite rocky and care should be taken when climbing over the rocks!

Stainforth Force

Stainforth Force

Situated a few miles North of Settle, and a steady walk from the car park in Stainforth will take you to these delightful falls with a large plunge pool.
Leave the car park (use the same car park for Catrigg Force) by the bottom corner and go through the subway under the road.
Turn right once you leave the subway and walk uphill.
Turn left over the railway lines then right, walk up the track until you come to Dog Brow Hill.
Turn left here and follow the road back down hill.
Cross the the bridge and go immediately through the hole in the wall.
The falls are in front of you.
Total distance 700m approx

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it"

Scalber Force

Scalber Force

2 Km to the East of Settle, is the stunning falls of Scaleber Force. Although it's just at the road side, but this can be tricky to reach. The "steps" down are steep and can be slippy in the wet.

Nelly Ayre Foss

Nelly Ayre Foss

Nelly Ayre is another of the Goathland area waterfalls. Situated approx 1 mile to the west of the village. Drive out of Goathland toward Egton until you come to a set of road signs saying "Egton 5", "Hunt House 1", "Goathland 1/2", and "Roman Road - Footpath only",

Take this left fork towards Hunt House, after approx 1 km you will come to a track leading off through the bracken (on the right hand side). Park here and journey down through the bracken until you come to a wall.
Turn left at this wall and continue along until you come to another sign post at the end of the wall.
Turn right here and descend down to the beck.
It is possible to get down to the waterfall but it is steep and can be very slippy in the wet! Access to the other side is difficult.

Steep and can be very slippy in the wet!

Mill Gill Force

Mill Gill Force

The route to Mill Gill takes you through the village of Askrigg, over meadow and up through woodland.
Park in the small car park on the way into Askrigg from Carperby or by the Church. (Also worth a visit!)
There are honesty boxes for donations which help pay for the upkeep of the area.
Follow the main street until you get to the St Oswald's church then turn down Mill Lane. Follow this lane until you reach a gate on the right leading through the buttercup meadow.
At the far end go through the stile and under the trough. Cross the bridge and turn right into the woodland.
Continue up until you reach a sign post "Mill Gill Fall only" and descend down to the falls.

Taking a left at the sign post will take you on to the Upper falls and Whitfield Gill Force, (which is covered in another blog post).

Finger Post to Mill Gill only.

UPPER MILL GILL FALLS
